About Hyco Solar

North Carolina Solar PanelsHyco Solar is a proposed solar energy generation facility in northwestern Person County that has the potential to benefit the entire community. It will generate millions of dollars in property tax revenue over its lifespan that will help fund local schools, roads, and emergency services, without adding taxpayer-funded infrastructure needs. It will also create approximately 95 jobs during construction, attract new businesses, and produce efficient, domestic energy for North Carolina.

The project, which will be developed on private land in Person County in an area that offers ideal proximity to transmission lines, will have no negative impact on wildlife, the environment, or property values.

Hyco Solar is being developed by Cypress Creek Renewables. Cypress Creek's flagship office is located in Durham, NC with an additional office in Asheville, NC. Between the two offices and remote workers, Cypress Creek's development team currently supports, and intends to continue to support community initiatives such as scholarships, nonprofit sponsorships, workforce development programs, and veterans programs throughout Person County.

Hyco Solar offers 80 MW of solar generation potential. This is enough energy to power 8,000 homes annually.

Project Location

The project is proposed on approximately 1,200 acres of private land along Cunningham Road in Semora, northeastern Person County, North Carolina, of which only 730 acres will be developed. This includes all required setbacks, vegetative buffers, and erosion and sediment control measures.

Hyco Solar's Key Benefits

  • POSITIVE LOCAL ECONOMIC IMPACT -- This project will generate $5 to $7 million in cumulative county revenue over its ~40-year lifespan and will create an estimated 95 new construction jobs.

  • LOW-IMPACT DEVELOPMENT -- Hyco Solar will not put strain on any municipal services, will not negatively impact wildlife or the environment, will not cause glare, odor or sound, and will have no impact on the value of neighboring properties.

  • LIGHT ON THE LAND -- Hyco Solar will require minimal changes to the land, which can be used for agricultural purposes after decommissioning.

  • DOMESTIC ENERGY -- Hyco Solar is expected to provide more than 180 million kilowatt hours per year of domestic energy to local and regional residents and businesses, enough electricity to power 8,000 North Carolina homes every year.
