Cypress Creek invests in SUNY Morrisville renewable energy students

TOWN OF FENNER, NY - Cypress Creek Renewables announced a $25,000 investment in the State University of New York at Morrisville’s Agricultural and Clean Energy Technology Center. The funds provided by Cypress Creek will be used to endow a scholarship to benefit students pursuing careers in the renewable energy field. On Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021, SUNY Morrisville held its grand opening celebration for its new Agricultural and Clean Energy Technology Center.

Cypress Creek’s investment will be used to form and start the development of a scholarship for a student looking to earn a Renewable Energy degree from the college. Theresa Kevorkian, Executive Director of the Morrisville College Foundation, said the school will continue to seek donation and will create a permanently endowed scholarship. She was grateful for Cypress Creek’s investment into this scholarship and the students.

“It’s the definition of sustainability, just like renewable energy,” she said. “Approximately 55 percent of Morrisville students are Pell (grant) eligible, one of the largest percentages in the SUNY System, meaning our students come from families of very limited financial means. This scholarship will enable a student to attend Morrisville that likely would not have been able to otherwise.” Kevorkian said that at Morrisville, especially in the Renewable Energy program, “students’ study for applied degrees that prepare them to launch into their career the day they graduate.” “They are an asset to their employers from their first day on the job because they have been trained in industry best practices,” she said. “They will leave Morrisville and go on to serve their community and promote this burgeoning industry while also making a life for themselves and their family that would otherwise have been unobtainable.”

Cypress Creek Renewables is a leading solar and energy storage company. The company has developed 39 projects across New York state. Cypress Creek is currently developing both distributed generation and utility-scale solar projects, such as the Oxbow Hill Solar Project. This partnership is part of Cypress Creek’s workforce development initiative, working to strengthen the renewable energy workforce through an investment in job training and development.

“We congratulate SUNY Morrisville on the opening of the Agricultural and Clean Energy Technology Center, and we are proud to support students pursuing degrees that are needed in the energy transition,” said Noah Hyte, Executive Vice President of Development, Cypress Creek Renewables. “We look forward to continue our work with SUNY Morrisville and the organizations across New York that provide training for New Yorkers to get jobs in renewable energy field.”
