Cypress Creek Renewables Supports Fundraising Efforts for New Aquatic Center at City of Yakima’s MLK, Jr. Park

Aug. 2, 2024, Yakima, WA – Cypress Creek Renewables (Cypress Creek) and the City of Yakima are pleased to announce Cypress Creek’s recent $50,000 contribution to support operations and maintenance of the Martin Luther King Jr. Park Aquatic Center.

The Aquatic Center broke ground in May of 2024 and is expected to open next year. The facility will provide engaging activities for youth, families, and seniors in the community, including swim lessons and water safety classes. The vision for an Aquatic Center has been years in the making and has progressed thanks to the leadership of the City of Yakima, Yakima County, the Washington State Legislature, the Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) of Washington and the Yakima Valley Community Foundation (YVCF).

Cypress Creek is committed to supporting the communities in which it operates and is pleased to announce its support for the development of this important project.

“We are honored to be a small part of the development of the Aquatic Center at MLK, Jr. Park,” said John Hanks, Director of Development at Cypress Creek. “Facilities of this nature are great additions to the recreational and economic fabric of a community, and we are excited to be part of such an effort.”

State Senator Curtis King, one of the community leaders working on this project, expressed his gratitude for the donation, stating "I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Cypress Creek for their investment in this vital community project. We are thrilled to see this project moving forward and know it will benefit our youth and the entire community for years to come.”

The original pool at MLK, Jr. Park was closed in 2006. In 2005, both the Miller Pool in Northeast Yakima and Eisenhower Pool to the West of the City also closed. The new Aquatic Center is a much-needed addition for the City of Yakima and is expected to be complete in Summer 2025.
