Hats off to our 2021 Class of Summer Associates

Community engagement, EPC pricing and New York State’s Value of Distributed Energy Resources were just three of the topics explored in presentations given this month by our 2021 Summer Associate Class. Their contributions and their final presentations are leaving us hopeful and inspired about the future leaders who will join us in making the energy transition possible.

In total, nine undergraduate and graduate students took part in our Summer Associate Class. The summer associate positions spanned the business with placements in Development, O&M Services and Shared Services. The summer projects were designed to ensure each summer associate meaningfully contributed to a project that furthers our mission of powering a sustainable future, one project a time.

Summer Associate Katherine Cima, a business student at the University of Michigan, visited the site of one of our proposed projects in Washington. She is pictured below with Romeo Solis, a Cypress Creek Developer who first interned for Cypress Creek in 2019 and joined the company full-time one year later. Katherine said of her experience, “the West transmission development team has been awesome. My projects are engaging, and I am learning a lot about solar development and being thrown into a lot of great meetings.”

Ryan Reese, a recent graduate of North Carolina State University who will be entering North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in the fall as a graduate student in electrical engineering, worked with our EPC group. He focused on EPC pricing and had the opportunity to visit a project under construction in North Carolina (pictured below). He said of his experience, "during this internship, I learned what it is like to work in the renewable energy. I can see myself going into this industry in the future, hopefully with Cypress Creek."

This was our second class to take place during COVID-19 conditions. Our summer associates stayed connected via weekly deep dives led by executives and senior leaders on a solar and storage energy projects’ lifecycle. Our goal with these weekly meetings was to give summer associates a holistic view of Cypress Creek, especially our operating feedback loop. As an owner and operator of solar and storage projects, we learn what works best in the field and bring that learning to the front end of development so that our next project is better than the last. We believe understanding the full life cycle of a project makes for stronger contributors in every area of our business.

We recruit for summer associates via Handshake, the college job board, as well as existing relationships with student energy clubs and universities throughout the country. To learn more about our summer associate program or open positions, please visit our career page: ccrenew.com/careers.
